The Great Fall Of Tim Cook: America’s Top 100 Highest-Rated CEOs For 2017

Elon Musk

With a 99% approval rating from his employees, the most highly rated CEO in the United States is Clorox CEO Benno Dorer, according to a new data compiled by career website Glassdoor.

Jim Kavanaugh is ranked No. 2 on the list, Boston Scientific’s Michael Mahoney took 3rd place, Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Craig B. Thompson at No. 4, and Fast Enterprises’ Martin Rankin at No. 5. Jen-Hsun Huang of NVIDIA ranked No. 6 on the list, followed by Bain & Company’s Bob Bechek at No. 7, Tesla’s Elon Musk landed at No. 8, HubSpot’s Brian Halligan at No.9, and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook came in at No. 10.

There are only 8 women on the top 100 list, including Ms. Pamela M. Nicholson of Enterprise Holdings (No. 21), In-N-Out Burger’s Lynsi Snyder (No. 36), Deloitte’s Cathy Engelbert (No. 40), GM’s Mary Barra at No. 65, Abby Johnson at Fidelity Investments (No. 73), Progressive Insurance’s Tricia Griffith (No. 3), Lockheed’s Marillyn Hewson (No. 99), and Katrina Lake CEO of Stitch Fix at No. 100.

What surprised me most about the list is drop for Apple’s Tim Cook on highest-rated chief executives list:

Cook had been steadily climbing up the rankings for years:

In 2013, he held the No. 18th spot.
In 2014, Cook held onto the 18th position.
In 2015, he held the No. 10th spot.
In 2016 (last year) Cook climbed right into the 8th position.

But for 2017, he crashed to earth at 53th spot, dropping 45 positions. By comparison, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella made his first appearance on the list, at number 29.

The list ranks the highest-rated CEOs of companies with 1,000 or more employees, as chosen by those employees.
