Fabrics and Dresses To Choose During The Monsoon Season

Kochi, India

Monsoon is a season when deciding what fabrics to opt for and what dress to wear can be confusing and frustrating. With so many options available in the market, hunt for monsoon appropriate outfits becomes much more difficult. Here are few ideas, which can assist you to rock this monsoon season without compromising on style and comfort.

Selecting the Right Fabrics

Fabrics such as denim or knitwear which tend to retain water and take a long time to dry are big ‘NO’ for the rainy season. Similarly, transparent or see-through fabrics should not be part of your monsoon wardrobe. Instead opt for light and flowy fabrics like cotton, mul, creep, polyester or rayon which can dry quickly in case of heavy downpours. Choose bright monochrome colors such as orange, pink, or dark red. There is a misconception that monochrome is a combination of black and white, which is not true. Monochrome refers to the incorporation of different shades of one single color in your attire, which aids you in creating a statement look.

Selecting Outfits

While selecting outfits, skip tight fitting clothes as they will cling to your body upon getting wet. Go for sleeveless or half-sleeved styles and avoid full-sleeves. You can wear off-shoulder tops, jumpsuits or dresses which are in trend this season.

  • Dresses: There is an array of different varieties and styles of dresses available for everyone according to their personal style statement. Trendy midi’s and maxi dresses are the best choices for monsoon season. Maxi dresses, wrap dresses, shirt dresses, flounce dresses, and drawstring dresses are monsoon appropriate. For a casual chic look go for wrap around and maxi dresses. Opt for flounce dresses for feminine air. Drawstring dresses, on the other hand, are inspired by street fashion and are an excellent option for those who enjoy the street style. Midi dresses can become work appropriate if paired with an elegant light-weight blazer or coat.
  • Skirts and Shorts: Skirts and shorts are must have for monsoon season. Ditch long flowy skirts or tight fitting shorts and go for loosely fitted shorts and skirts instead. These both bottom wears make a great substitute for skinny jeans and denim. Pencil skirts can make for excellent office wear during monsoons.
  • Wide-Legged Bottoms: Palazzo, culottes and slim pants made from fabrics like cotton and linen are another substitute for jeans. You can easily pair them with light kurtas which come in different styles and patterns for a comfortable and stylish look. If you are ready to experiment with your look, teaming up crop tops with culottes is yet another option for that is in trend for this season.
  • Outer Wear: Raincoats are a thing of past. Trench coat, waterproof jackets, windcheaters, and hoodies have already replaced dull and boring raincoats in the market. Loose hoodies with flared sleeves and slightly cropped hems are in style. You can wear them with culottes, midi skirts, and cotton trousers for a fresh look.

Accessories

Monsoon is a time to spare your feet from the atrocities of high heel footwear. Take this opportunity to try-out other footwear options like gladiator sandals, slip-ons, ballerinas, etc. Also, jelly shoe, flip-flops, silicon shoes, or gumboots can make for excellent footwear during rainy days. You can also opt for thigh-high boots for making a statement.

Utilize bags that have polyester lining from inside and zip closure. Transparent handbag in fluorescent shades is yet another accessory which is pretty much popular this year.
