Cemex has announced that its CEO, Fernando A. González, will retire after a distinguished career spanning more than 35 years with the company. The Board of Directors has appointed Jaime Muguiro as his successor, with the leadership transition set to take effect on April 1, 2025.
Rogelio Zambrano, Chairman of Cemex’s Board of Directors, expressed gratitude for González’s contributions, acknowledging his decade-long leadership as CEO and the company’s transformation under his tenure. He highlighted González’s role in positioning Cemex as an industry leader in sustainability, innovation, and digitalization, as well as restoring its investment-grade ratings. Zambrano also conveyed confidence in Muguiro, stating that his experience and strategic vision would drive continued growth and value for all stakeholders.
Reflecting on his career, González described his time at Cemex—particularly as CEO—as the most fulfilling period of his professional life. He expressed appreciation for the trust and support he received from Zambrano and the Board of Directors and took pride in the company’s advancements in the building materials sector. Having worked alongside Muguiro for over two decades, he expressed confidence that his successor’s leadership and business expertise would contribute to an even stronger future for Cemex.
Muguiro, who joined Cemex in 1996, has held key executive roles in Strategic Planning, Business Development, Ready-Mix Concrete, Aggregates, and Human Resources. He has led various regional operations, including the Mediterranean, South and Central America, and the Caribbean. Most recently, he served as President of Cemex in the United States and previously held the position of CEO at Cemex Latam Holdings, a publicly listed company.
Expressing appreciation for the trust placed in him by Zambrano and the Board, Muguiro credited González’s leadership as a source of inspiration. He stated that he was eager to take on the challenge and collaborate with customers, employees, and stakeholders to drive sustainable construction and usher Cemex into a new era of innovation.
