Paul McDade to Share Insights at Congo Energy & Investment Forum 2025
Paul McDade, CEO of UK-based oil company Afentra, has been confirmed as a keynote speaker for the Congo Energy & Investment Forum (CEIF), scheduled for March 25-26, 2025, in Brazzaville. Drawing on Afentra’s achievements in Angola, McDade will discuss the company’s strategic approach to optimizing mid-life oilfields and promoting sustainable production growth across Africa.
Afentra’s Success in Angola: A Model for Congo
Afentra entered the Angolan market in May 2023, followed by a sale and purchase agreement with Azule Energy in July 2023. The transaction secured a 12% interest in Block 3/05 and a 16% stake in Block 3/05A offshore Angola for up to $84.5 million. These acquisitions complemented an earlier deal with Angola’s national oil company Sonangol, which included a 14% non-operating interest in Block 3/05 and a 40% stake in Block 23. Afentra’s operations in Angola have become a blueprint for unlocking value from mature assets, providing a framework for similar opportunities in the Republic of Congo.
Congo Energy & Investment Forum: A Platform for Growth
The CEIF 2025 will bring together international investors and local stakeholders to explore energy and infrastructure opportunities across the Republic of Congo and the wider region. The event will feature updates on key projects, including gas-to-power initiatives, and discuss ongoing national expansions in the energy sector.
Afentra’s focus on the Lower Congo Basin underscores its strategy of building a portfolio centered on mid-life producing assets often deprioritized by major oil companies. The company emphasizes safe and responsible asset optimization, redevelopment, and lifespan extension, with a strong commitment to minimizing emissions. This aligns directly with the Republic of Congo’s ambitions to rejuvenate mature fields and increase oil production to 500,000 barrels per day by 2027.
Perspectives on Regional Energy Development
Energy Capital & Power CEO James Chester highlighted Afentra’s success as a demonstration of the potential for optimizing mid-life oilfields to achieve long-term energy security and production growth. Chester noted that McDade’s participation in CEIF 2025 would provide valuable insights into strategies for maximizing production while supporting Congo’s broader energy objectives.
By sharing its experience in Angola, Afentra aims to support the Republic of Congo’s energy sector transformation, fostering sustainable development and regional energy security.
