PwC Canada and AWS Unveil Program to Propel Careers in Cloud Engineering

PwC Canada and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have launched the “Jump Start Your Career” program, an initiative aimed at fostering the next generation of cloud engineering professionals in Canada. This program will provide 125 final-year university students across the country with fully funded AWS certifications, mentorship from PwC experts, and a chance for four outstanding participants to join PwC’s Cloud Engineering team.

Announced at the AWS Summit 2024 in Toronto, the program reflects a strategic effort to connect emerging talent with key industry players. It addresses the growing demand for skilled technology professionals, highlighted in PwC’s 2024 “Hopes and Fears” Survey, which pointed out the need for upskilling, especially in areas like generative AI, for Canadian businesses to stay competitive on a global scale.

Michelle Bourgeois, National Alliance and Consulting Technology Leader at PwC Canada, emphasized the firm’s dedication to developing Canadian talent. “Through the ‘Jump Start Your Career’ program, we’re not only offering students industry-recognized certifications but also providing them with invaluable mentorship and potential career opportunities within PwC’s expanding Cloud Engineering practice,” she said. “This initiative aims to equip emerging talent with the skills and support necessary to succeed in the rapidly growing cloud computing sector.”

PwC boasts over 5,200 AWS-certified professionals worldwide, including 15 AWS Ambassadors, and has collaborated with AWS to support more than 200 Fortune 500 clients.

Developed by PwC’s AWS Alliance team, the program leverages their expertise in cloud technology and is supported by a $500,000 investment from PwC. It targets final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students in fields such as engineering, computer science, mathematics, and analytics from seven leading Canadian universities: the University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, University of Waterloo, McGill University, Queen’s University, University of Calgary, and Université de Montréal/Polytechnique.

The “Jump Start Your Career” program offers participants:

    • Fully Funded AWS Certifications: Covering the cost of two AWS certification exams to provide students with essential industry credentials.
    • Technical Mentorship: One-on-one mentorship from experienced PwC cloud engineering professionals, offering guidance and insight into real-world applications.
    • Career Opportunities: Four top-performing students will have the chance to join PwC Canada’s Cloud Engineering team.
    • Launch Events: Networking and knowledge-sharing events in Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, and Toronto to connect students with PwC professionals.

Applications are currently open and can be submitted through the program’s website until September 30, 2024.
