Mark Zuckerberg Poised to Claim Title of World’s Richest Person
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta — the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and WhatsApp — is on the brink of becoming the world’s richest individual for the first time. His net worth has soared by $51 billion in 2024, reaching an estimated $179 billion. Zuckerberg is now the fourth-richest person globally, following Elon Musk ($248 billion), Jeff Bezos ($202 billion), and Bernard Arnault ($180 billion).
Zuckerberg recently overtook Arnault, the CEO of luxury conglomerate LVMH, and while he still trails behind Musk and Bezos, his remarkable financial gains this year suggest he could potentially outpace them. Notably, Musk’s net worth was at $164 billion as recently as April, and Bezos’ wealth at the beginning of 2024 was slightly below Zuckerberg’s current fortune.
Several factors could contribute to Zuckerberg’s potential ascent to the top of the wealth rankings. Market volatility affecting tech stocks, weaker-than-expected earnings from Tesla or Amazon, legal challenges, or substantial charitable donations from Musk or Bezos could provide openings for Zuckerberg to surpass them. Moreover, at 40 years old, Zuckerberg has more time to build his wealth compared to Musk, who is 53, and Bezos, who is 60.
Zuckerberg’s current net worth already exceeds that of other notable figures, such as Bill Gates, Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and Warren Buffett, who has given away more than half of his Berkshire Hathaway shares to charity. With a robust performance in 2024 and the ongoing expansion of the tech industry, Zuckerberg stands a realistic chance of becoming the world’s wealthiest person in the near future.
