Nordtreat Names Outi Kallio as New CEO to Drive Sustainable Growth
Finnish technology company Nordtreat has announced the appointment of Outi Kallio as its new CEO, effective from the beginning of 2025. Kallio brings extensive experience in commercial and industrial management, having held several key positions at Teknos Group, where she is currently the Global Commercial Director. Her background includes significant expertise in sales, human resources, and marketing, as well as a proven track record of leading international teams.
Kallio, who has more than a decade of experience in the coatings industry, noted the increasing shift towards sustainable solutions driven by customer demand. She stated, “Nordtreat’s commitment to bio-based technologies and its strong ethos of responsibility provides a solid foundation for scaling Finnish sustainability expertise into an international growth story. I am excited to join this team of top professionals and look forward to contributing to our shared success.”
Kallio will succeed Aki Borgentorp, who has served as CEO for the past ten years. Under Borgentorp’s leadership, Nordtreat developed the first bio-based flame retardant for wood-based materials and expanded its market presence globally.
Leif Frilund, Chairman of the Board of Nordtreat, expressed enthusiasm about Kallio’s appointment and also acknowledged Borgentorp’s contributions.
In addition to Kallio’s appointment, Nordtreat has strengthened its board of directors. Dr. Thomas Kostka, Head of Corporate Venturing at Altana AG, joined the board in August 2024, while Sakari Saarela, a partner in the UB Forest Industry Green Growth Fund (UB FIGG), was appointed as a board observer. Sampsa Auvinen, who has been a board member since 2022, will continue to represent UB FIGG and serve as Chairman of its Advisory Board.
These changes follow an investment in Nordtreat by Altana Group, a global leader in specialty chemicals, and UB FIGG, a growth equity fund focused on sustainable and resource-efficient industries, announced in June 2024.
