Rethink Food, Matt Jozwiak Debut Rethink Supper Club To Bring Tasteful Awareness to Hunger
It was cause to celebrate in the Big Apple when Rethink Food launched its Sustainable Community Kitchen in New York City’s Greenwich Village in March. Over the past few months, the space has become a flourishing hub for community engagement and raising awareness for food scarcity in the city that never sleeps. The space houses a team of chefs and culinary experts to prepare community meals on-site. That food is then delivered to community-based organizations like schools and churches.
“We’re constantly trying to reach, educate, and engage new supporters in our unique approach to serving our local community,” Rethink Food CEO Matt Jozwiak shared in a press release.
And now, the nonprofit is proud to announce its latest innovative initiative: the Rethink Supper Club.
“We are thrilled to present the #RethinkSupperClub, our monthly dinner series featuring chefs and restaurants who are committed to creating a better food future across #NewYorkCity,” Rethink Food shared on its Instagram.
What’s Cooking With Rethink Food?
The Supper Club is a novel idea even in the foodie paradise that is NYC.
“Join us for our first dinner featuring Chef Calvin Hwang & @figureeightnyc,” Rethink Food posted on Instagram. “Figure Eight celebrates the culture and culinary richness of the lower Atlantic coast through a Chinese-American lens. They are inspired by personal heritage and upbringing by immigrant parents in the American South, doing their best to cook Chinese meals for their families while navigating a landscape of local, southern American ingredients.”
Sound tasty? It will be. On Aug. 22, Supper Clubbers will enjoy a feast from the restaurant that Time Out called “casually polished and as assured as if it had been there for years … A sensational seafood tower that’s inked in New York City’s big book of essential eating, excellent hot fried skate and pork ribs.”
And of course, the Rethink Supper Club setting is equally appetizing. “This new space reflects our culture of centering community leaders, culinary professionals, and hospitality at the heart of our mission,” the organization revealed in a newsletter.
All of the proceeds will benefit Rethink Food, whose kitchen has repurposed over 2.5 million pounds of excess food and made over 1.9 million meals since 2017.
Matt Jozwiak and Chef Calvin Hwang Giving Back
Rethink Food’s debut Supper Club is guaranteed to be a gastronomical triumph. Before commandeering the kitchen at Figure Eight, Hwang was a sous chef at Osteria Morini and worked in the kitchen at The Vestry. In addition, he trained under celebrated chef James Kent at the Michelin-starred hot spots Saga and Crown Shy.
Continuing Rethink Food’s mission to amplify local talent, Brooklyn-based artist Enne Goldstein designed the nature-driven poster to promote the event.
How Matt Jozwiak and Rethink Food Continue To Serve Communities
Rethink Supper Club isn’t the only way Matt Jozwiak and Rethink Food give back to the community. Jozwiak understands how essential good food is to the very fabric of New York City, which makes the Rethink Food recipe combining culinary excellence with social responsibility such a resounding success — and a much-needed resource. He’s perpetually brainstorming inventive programming that connects nourishing meals with those who need them.
Rethink Food is marching toward a more equitable food system in New York City. Since the progressive nonprofit started with co-founders Matt Jozwiak and chef Daniel Humm, it continually increases its impact through new initiatives.
“Our restaurant partners create thousands of meals every week for the communities that we serve. Eleven Madison Park has financially supported these partners over the years through our restaurant fundraising model and hosting our fundraising events,” Matt Jozwiak shared on LinkedIn.
“Through our family meal program, we connect restaurant fundraisers with the small businesses that Rethink Food supports.”
It’s no coincidence that Rethink Food’s inaugural Supper Club makes its anticipated debut during NYC’s beloved Restaurant Week, a semiannual celebration of all the tasty wonders available in the Big Apple.
Rethink posted on Instagram about the Supper Club, “100% of the proceeds will provide nutritious and culturally celebrated meals for food-insecure communities. So, when you dine with us, you help create a more sustainable and equitable food system.”
