Challenges in Smart Technology Integration for Luxury Homes: Only 19% of Architects and Builders in the US Regularly Work on Smart Home Projects
Smart technology provider BRAVAS has unveiled significant findings from a recent industry-wide survey, shedding light on the challenges faced by architects and luxury home builders in integrating smart technology and automation solutions in custom properties.
Conducted online in early June, the survey reached over 3,000 architects and luxury home builders across the United States. The results underscore the critical importance of early-stage collaboration with integrators in the luxury home market, which leads to better project outcomes and higher homeowner satisfaction.
Among the challenges highlighted, 20% of respondents pointed to the high costs of smart home solutions as a major hurdle. Another 19% cited a lack of knowledge and training in smart home technologies, difficulties in finding reliable vendors and products, and compatibility issues with existing home systems.
The survey indicates that improved accessibility to skilled integrators could greatly benefit architects and builders. Although only 19% of architects and builders reported regularly working with custom integrators on smart home projects, 60% said they do so occasionally. Additionally, 31% expressed a need for better access to skilled custom integrators, while 30% emphasized the need for more reliable integrators who back their products.
Of those already collaborating with custom integrators, 23% value the expertise and solutions provided by these professionals, including setup and servicing support. Another 22% appreciate the integrators’ advanced tech knowledge and their assistance in architectural planning.
Custom integrators are becoming increasingly crucial in strategic areas, with 28% of respondents relying on them during the initial design and planning phase.
Mark Goldman, Chairman and CEO of BRAVAS, commented on the survey findings, highlighting the indispensable role of custom integrators in the design and construction of luxury homes. Goldman emphasized that partnering with a reputable nationwide custom integrator offers architects, builders, and designers access to advanced product solutions, reliable warranties, and superior lifetime service. This collaboration ensures the seamless integration of advanced technologies, enhancing the functionality, security, and aesthetic appeal of luxury homes.
Goldman further noted that early collaboration with integrators enables architects, builders, and designers to deliver superior, future-ready living experiences that meet the discerning demands of their clients. This approach not only elevates the market appeal of the homes but also provides clients with tailored, intuitive living environments, setting a new standard in luxury living.
