Bridging the Tech Gap in Hospitality: Insights from the Women’s Innovation Council

A recent study by the Hospitality Women’s Innovation Council (WIC), comprising hotel brand executives, managers, and innovators, reveals a significant gap in the current hotel technology landscape. Only 20% of hotel professionals feel that their existing tech infrastructure is adequate for achieving efficiency, cost savings, and providing optimal guest care.

The survey also highlights a strong demand for improved collaboration among technology companies. An overwhelming 91% of respondents believe that better integration between tech providers is crucial, and 86% indicated that streamlined integration processes would boost their willingness to invest in new technology.

Survey Insights

Conducted online from May 25 to June 15, the survey asked participants several key questions:

Effectiveness of Current Technology: How well does the existing hotel tech stack (PMS, CRS, RMS, housekeeping, maintenance, etc.) serve hoteliers and their guests?

Daily Operations: Which technologies or solutions are most effective for improving your daily duties as a hotelier or hotel professional?

Integration and Collaboration: How well do different technology providers integrate and collaborate with one another?

Importance of Seamless Integrations: How crucial is it to have accessible and seamless integrations?

Future Evolution: How should technology solutions evolve within the hospitality industry?

Impact of Easier Integrations: If integrations were easier, how would this affect your decision to purchase or adopt new technology in the future?

Georgine Muntz, co-chair of the WIC and CEO of Visual Matrix, which facilitated the survey, emphasized that industry professionals identified collaboration as the primary driver for better business outcomes. This collaboration should occur both among technology providers and between providers and hoteliers.

Muntz noted that the council was founded with the belief that women leaders in hospitality can enhance collaboration and encourage standardized integrations within the industry. The survey’s findings validate this assumption, and the council plans to release recommendations on improving integration, collaboration, and innovation in the near future.
