Norwegian dry bulk operator Western Bulk Chartering has appointed Torbjørn Gjervik as its new CEO, effective September 1, 2024. Gjervik will succeed Ørjan Svanevik, who has been serving as interim CEO since March. Svanevik, formerly a director and COO at Setankers Management, joined Western Bulk’s board last August and stepped into the CEO role following Hans Aasnaes’s departure in February.
Following the transition, Svanevik will continue to serve as a board member. Bengt Rem, chairman of Western Bulk, expressed confidence in Gjervik’s leadership, highlighting his extensive industry experience and dedication to enhancing value creation for the company. Gjervik, who joined Western Bulk as a trainee in 2011, has steadily climbed the ranks to his new leadership position.
Gjervik looks forward to refining Western Bulk’s asset-light trading model and collaborating with colleagues worldwide. Gjervik, previously head of the North Atlantic region, has held various management roles within Western Bulk’s global network, including seven years as managing director in Singapore.
