Elevating Leadership: Alison O’Neill Appointed Chief Investment Officer at MFS Investment Management

In a strategic move, MFS Investment Management has named Alison O’Neill as its new Chief Investment Officer, effective January 1, 2025. Alongside this role, O’Neill will join the firm’s management committee, marking a significant step in her career trajectory.

With this appointment, O’Neill assumes responsibility for overseeing MFS’s robust investment team, comprising professionals across equity, fixed income, quantitative solutions, and global trading domains.

O’Neill’s ascent to this key position follows the announcement that Edward M. “Ted” Maloney, the current CIO, will transition to the role of Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2025.

Reflecting on O’Neill’s appointment, Maloney emphasized her invaluable contributions to the firm over nearly two decades, highlighting her role in talent acquisition, mentorship, and collaboration to enhance the firm’s investment platform.

O’Neill’s journey with MFS commenced in 2005 as an equity research analyst. Over the years, she has demonstrated her prowess, ascending to roles such as Director of Research for North America in 2016 and adding diversified portfolio management responsibilities in 2018. Her appointment as co-CIO of equity in 2020 further solidified her position as a key leader within the organization. With a career spanning back to 2000, O’Neill brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role at the helm of MFS’s investment endeavors.
