El Kope Becomes Permanent CFO at Cell C
Mobile operator Cell C has named El Kope as its chief financial officer on a permanent basis, following her tenure as acting CFO since August last year. Kope steps into the role after Lerato Pule’s resignation, who has moved to Liquid Intelligent Technologies.
Kope’s appointment aligns with Cell C CEO Jorge Mendes’s efforts to revamp the executive team amidst the company’s recent financial challenges. Mendes has been drawing on his experience at Vodacom, tapping former colleagues for key positions to inject fresh perspectives into the telco’s operations.
Cell C has made significant internal and external appointments in recent months, including the naming of Darius Badenhorst as chief growth officer and Melanie Forbes as chief marketing officer, both seasoned veterans from Vodacom.
As Cell C seeks to stabilize its finances, Kope’s appointment comes at a crucial juncture. Despite a decline in revenue in its latest results, Kope’s track record as a highly accomplished chartered accountant and visionary finance executive inspires confidence in her ability to steer the company towards financial stability.
In its announcement, Cell C expressed excitement about Kope’s appointment, highlighting it as a strategic move to reinforce the company’s commitment to financial leadership and excellence. The decision reflects Cell C’s confidence in internal talent, underscoring its dedication to cultivating top-tier professionals within the organization.
According to Cell C, Kope’s swift actions as acting CFO have already yielded positive results, including improved governance, strengthened relationships with stakeholders, and enhanced financial stability.
Jorge Mendes expressed his confidence in Kope’s leadership, praising her exceptional qualities and strategic acumen. Kope, in turn, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead Cell C’s financial strategy, emphasizing her commitment to driving growth and ensuring long-term sustainability for the company.
