K2 International Appoints Richard Coello as CEO to Drive Strategic Growth

K2 Insurance Services, a distinguished independent specialty insurer, has unveiled its latest strategic move with the appointment of Richard Coello as the new CEO of K2 Group Holdings Limited (K2 International), effective March 1, 2024.

Bob Kimmel, CEO and co-founder of K2 Insurance Services, expressed confidence in Coello’s ability to drive K2 International’s growth trajectory, citing it as a key strategic priority after the Warburg Pincus transaction. Kimmel emphasized the trust placed in Coello to leverage his past successes and lead new teams and acquisitions effectively.

Coello, in response to his appointment, conveyed his pride in supporting K2 International in its new phase of development, underlining the unwavering support from the parent company and owners to prioritize growth initiatives. He expressed eagerness to engage with emerging underwriting talent, providing them with the necessary infrastructure to cultivate their own prosperous ventures.

Coello brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in building successful underwriting businesses to his new role. Notably, he spearheaded the establishment of K2 Financial, transforming it from a startup into a robust $65 million premium business over the past decade. His adept leadership also saw the expansion of product offerings into the Fintech and US direct markets in recent years.

Prior to joining K2 International, Coello held pivotal positions, including Assistant General Manager for Travelers Europe, where he founded the Financial Institutions division, showcasing his expertise in strategic business development and market expansion.

Having co-managed K2 International alongside David Carson since its acquisition by K2 Insurance Services in May 2020, Coello played a crucial role in steering the company through significant milestones, including the recent acquisition by Warburg Pincus.

With a distinguished career spanning executive roles at prominent firms such as Chubb, Newline Group, Willis, and Legal & General Investment Management, Coello’s appointment heralds a new chapter for K2 International, poised for sustained growth and innovation under his astute leadership.
