BP Interim CFO Kate Thomson Becomes Permanent
In a recent announcement, the leadership team at BP unveiled the appointment of Kate Thomson as the company’s Chief Financial Officer. Joining the board with immediate effect, Kate, who has been serving as interim CFO since September 2023, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role.
Prior to stepping into the interim CFO role, Kate served as BP’s Senior Vice President, Finance for Production & Operations, overseeing financial stewardship and commercial partnerships globally. With a tenure at BP since 2004, she held various senior financial positions, including Group Treasurer and Group Head of Tax.
Before joining BP, Kate accumulated experience in professional services firms, including Ernst & Young, where she worked in M&A tax and as the Group Head of Tax for Charter plc. Serving on the board of Aker BP since 2016 and multiple BP Group companies, Kate is a qualified chartered accountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). Her diverse background positions her well for the dynamic challenges ahead in the evolving landscape of BP’s financial leadership.
Helge Lund, Chair of BP, expressed his enthusiasm about Kate’s appointment, highlighting her intricate knowledge of BP, the energy sector, and finance. He emphasized her deep technical expertise and noted that her performance during her tenure as interim CFO showcased her suitability for the permanent role. The board is eager to collaborate with Kate and Murray as they navigate the execution of BP’s strategic initiatives.
