Milano Furuta Succeeds Costa Saroukos as CFO of Takeda

Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited (NYSE: TAK), (TOKYO:4502/NYSE: TAK) has undergone a significant alteration in its executive leadership, marking the departure of Chief Financial Officer Costa Saroukos, effective April 1, 2024, according to a company’s press release. Saroukos, opting to return to Australia for family reasons, will continue serving on the board of directors until June 28, 2024. Milano Furuta, the current President of Takeda’s Japan Pharma Business Unit, is slated to succeed him.

Saroukos, who commenced his tenure in April 2018, played a pivotal role in orchestrating Takeda’s evolution into a global biopharmaceutical entity, notably steering the acquisition and integration of Shire PLC—the largest-ever overseas acquisition by a Japanese company. His financial acumen was instrumental in the success of this transformative venture.

Furuta, the designated CFO, has been an integral part of Takeda since 2010, bringing a wealth of experience in equity research analysis in the United States and banking and private equity investment in Japan. With an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree in international affairs from Hitotsubashi University in Japan, Furuta’s diverse background positions him as a formidable leader for Takeda’s finance organization.

Expressing confidence in Furuta’s capabilities, Takeda’s President and CEO, Christophe Weber, highlighted the new CFO’s potential to advance the company’s commitment to growth and shareholder returns. Weber also acknowledged Saroukos’ significant contributions, underscoring his role in shaping Takeda’s robust finance function and organizational culture.
