Alfred Sham Succeeds Mark Johnson as Interim CEO of Howden for Hong Kong
Global insurance group Howden has announced the appointment of Alfred Sham as interim CEO for Hong Kong, succeeding Mark Johnson, who will step down from the role. Johnson will remain with the firm until the spring to facilitate a smooth transition before joining a major insurance organization in Hong Kong. Charles Yim, the new Associate Director of Financial Lines, and Hui Ling Wong, the new Regional Director, have also been appointed, effective immediately. Both Yim and Wong will report directly to Sham.
Goh Chye Huat, CEO of Howden Asia, expressed confidence in the new appointments, stating that they position the company to better serve clients in the region and capitalize on emerging market opportunities. Alfred Sham, in his role as interim CEO, emphasized the importance of having a strong team to support the expansion of Howden’s footprint in Hong Kong, both through acquisitions and organic growth.
Alfred Sham, who joined Howden in 2013, has played various roles in Hong Kong and Singapore and has been a crucial contributor to the region’s growth, particularly in regional M&A opportunities. Since 2018, Sham has served on the Hong Kong Board of Directors.
Charles Yim, previously the Associate Director of Financial Advisory at Teneo, brings diverse experience, including roles at Marsh & McLennan and PwC. Hui Ling Wong, formerly a Senior Partner at Fusion Specialty, has over 16 years of experience in legal and insurance expertise. She has held positions at Aon and worked as an M&A lawyer in prestigious law firms in Singapore and Hong Kong.
