Dr Roosevelt Skerrit

The visionary leader of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Prime Minister Honourable Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, is receiving international recognition for his role in promoting change and climate resilience in the Eastern Caribbean and Latin America regions. Dr. Skerrit was featured in the “Most Influential and Impactful Leaders” list for 2023 by the popular Caribbean regional channel, Caribbean Lifestyle by J-irie. The recognition applauds his outstanding governance, commitment to climate resilience, and efforts to position Dominica as the world’s first climate-resilient nation.

Leadership and Economic Development: This achievement highlights the leadership and accomplishments of Prime Minister Skerrit in fostering economic development in Dominica. Caribbean Lifestyle by J-irie acknowledges his role in promoting change and building hope in Dominica, emphasizing his consistent leadership throughout 2023.

Dominica is rapidly emerging as an economic powerhouse in the Eastern Caribbean and Latin America regions. Through strategic policies and unwavering commitment, Dr. Skerrit has guided the island state to achieve remarkable milestones in economic development. Dr. Skerrit’s initiatives, coupled with a resilient and resourceful approach, have not only revitalized the economy but also positioned Dominica as a beacon of strength in the broader geopolitical landscape. Moreover, these efforts have transformed Dominica into a success story of long-term sustainable development.

Climate Resilience and International Acclaim: Special recognition is given to Skerrit for his dedication to climate resilience in the face of the region’s vulnerability to climate change. The report commends his leadership in achieving significant economic development, climate resilience, and social progress in Dominica.

International Efforts and Challenges:
Dr Skerrit’s international acclaim stems from vocalising the challenges faced by Small Island Development States (SIDS) globally. His influence extends beyond political power, deeply impacting the lives of Dominicans as they overcome challenges and pursue progress and prosperity.

Modernisation Agenda: The government of Dominica is pushing for modernization and economic growth, as evidenced by its plans to build a geothermal energy plant and a new international airport. The recent agreement with MMCE Development Limited to start construction on the airport is seen as a major step towards achieving these goals.

Housing Initiative for Climate Resilience: Dominica’s commitment to becoming the world’s first climate-resilient nation is demonstrated through the Housing Recovery Programme (HPR). The government is constructing over 5,000 resilient homes prioritizing victims of past hurricanes, which aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision for climate resilience.

Christmas Home Distribution and Meaningful Gifting: In a heartwarming gesture, the Honourable Dr. Skerrit distributed an additional 73 homes just before Christmas. He considered this as a meaningful gift during the festive season. The Housing Recovery Programme, which was launched after Hurricane Maria, aims to create a climate-resilient nation. This programme demonstrates Honourable Dr. Skerrit’s commitment to fulfilling his pledge at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in 2017.

Dominica’s Citizenship by Investment Programme was launched in 1993 and has been rated as the top CBI initiative for six years in a row by the CBI Index. The programme places emphasis on the integrity and overall quality of its applicants, only accepting people of exceptional character and repute. To guarantee that citizenship is granted only to credible persons of excellent standing, all applicants above 16 years of age undergo comprehensive due diligence checks. For those who fulfill Dominica’s citizenship requirements, the island offers an exceptional standard of living, one of the best in the Caribbean region. Dominica is a politically and economically stable country with a low crime rate and abundant investment opportunities. It is also one of the most stunning places on earth, often referred to as the “Nature Isle of the Caribbean”. With a pristine coastline, acres of unspoiled tropical rainforest, an incredible marine biodiversity, and natural hot springs due to its volcanic origin, Dominica is a true paradise.
