Special Reports

These US cities have households earning more than $90,000

San Jose, California

Santa Barbara is a charming city between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The city has a moderate climate throughout the year and is located close to Hollywood, attracting many rich and famous people. Some of the renowned residents of Santa Barbara include George Lucas, Oprah Winfrey, and Ellen DeGeneres. However, there are numerous other U.S. cities where most households earn a high income. According to a recent study by CEOWORLD magazine, there are 34 cities in the U.S. where the median household income exceeds $90,000. The study used data from the U.S. Census Bureau, which tracks the median annual income of households in more than 300 metropolitan statistical areas. The study identified cities with the largest concentration of wealthy individuals and families.

The highest median household income in the country can be found in and around San Jose, California.  Interestingly, 11 of the top-ranking metropolitan areas in terms of median household income are located in California, the most populated state in the country with a robust economy that accounts for 14 percent of US GDP. Several top-ranked cities for median household income are state capitals, with Boston leading the way at $104,299.
