Apple has decided to source iPhone batteries from India

Apple

Apple has made plans to relocate its iPhone battery production to India as part of a strategy to diversify its global supply chain away from China. The company has informed its component suppliers that it would prefer to source batteries for the upcoming iPhone 16 from Indian factories.

This decision is aligned with Apple’s broader initiative to decrease its reliance on Chinese manufacturing and supply chains, particularly in light of the increasing trade tensions between the United States and China.

Apple is encouraging battery manufacturers such as Desay from China to establish new production facilities in India to facilitate the shift. Simplo Technology, a Taiwanese battery supplier for Apple, has also been urged to scale up its production operations in India for future orders. The company plans to expand the “Make in India” initiative and explore the possibility of sourcing batteries from Indian factories if the iPhone 16 battery supply proves successful.

In alignment with the Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative, TDK, a Japanese supplier for Apple, is setting up a large facility in Haryana to manufacture battery cells for iPhones made in India. The government offers incentives to companies investing in significant sectors such as mobile phones and batteries.
