Paul Burns Becomes CEO of SkipTheDishes
SkipTheDishes, a prominent Canadian delivery network, announced the appointment of Paul Burns as its new Chief Executive Officer. Burns, formerly the managing director at X (formerly Twitter), is set to succeed interim CEO Steve Puchala, who temporarily assumed the role earlier this year after the transition of former CEO Howard Migdal to Executive Vice President, North America and CEO of Grubhub within the Just Eat Takeaway network in April 2023.
SkipTheDishes, part of Just Eat Takeaway, stands as a leading global online food delivery marketplace, connecting millions of customers with over 50,000 Restaurant Partners in Canada.
Paul Burns brings a wealth of experience spanning over two decades, boasting a diverse background in technology across start-ups and established entities such as X, Huge, Shaw Communications, and Canwest. His leadership, strategic insight, and proficiency in scaling operations have contributed to the development of local technology and products recognized globally by leading tech brands.
Following Burns’ appointment as CEO, Interim CEO Steve Puchala will retire by year-end. Puchala played a pivotal role during his tenure, notably focusing on expanding Skip’s services beyond food delivery into daily essentials like flowers, pet supplies, and alcohol, exploring avenues for future growth.
Howard Migdal acknowledged Puchala’s contributions, stating, “Steve’s tenure as Interim CEO has been hallmarked by an emphasis on innovation, exploring and delivering new ways to show up for Skip’s loyal customer base. He has helped set the stage for the next phase of Skip’s growth under the impressive leadership of Paul Burns, who brings to the table an ambition to continue to trailblaze and take Skip to new heights as both a Canadian and global organization.”
Expressing his enthusiasm, Paul Burns, the incoming Chief Executive Officer of SkipTheDishes, stated, “Having witnessed Skip’s incredible rise from a Prairies start-up in 2012 to the industry-leading organization it is today, I am honored to be stepping into the position of CEO and working with a very talented team to create more transformative delivery experiences for Canadians. This is an ever-evolving and dynamic industry that is only limited by our imaginations. I am excited about what we will create together as we nurture a culture of innovation, compassion, and humility designed to attract and retain world-class talent.”
