Founder and CEO of Bumble Steps Down
The founder and CEO of the dating app Bumble, Whitney Wolfe Herd, will step down from her position early next year. Bumble is known for its approach that requires women to initiate conversations with potential dating matches. Wolfe Herd established the company in 2014 with the goal of creating a safe and empowering online dating environment. According to a company announcement made on Monday, Lidiane Jones, the CEO of Salesforce’s cloud-based messaging platform, Slack, will take over as CEO on January 2, 2024.
On Monday, Bumble’s stock saw a decrease of over 4%, and its shares have fallen by 38% since the beginning of the year. Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff commented on Jones’s new role, describing it as a well-deserved achievement. The company plans to announce a new head of Slack on November 13, as per a spokesperson.
Wolfe Herd will transition to a new role as the executive chair when Jones assumes the position of CEO. Herd stated in a press release, “It’s a monumental moment, one that has taken a great deal of time, consideration, and care for me to pass the baton to a leader and a woman I deeply respect.”
Jones was appointed as the head of Slack earlier this year after holding various executive positions at Salesforce and spending more than a decade at Microsoft. She expressed her admiration for Bumble’s mission and her enthusiasm for driving long-term, sustainable growth at the company. She also expressed her gratitude for the support from her colleagues at Slack and Salesforce.
