Chris Parker is the new CEO of Cattle Australia
The Board of Directors of Cattle Australia (CA) has announced the appointment of a full-time Chief Executive Officer, effective from November 15. Dr. Chris Parker, well-known in the industry for his recent role as First Assistant Secretary Biosecurity Animal Division and National Animal Disease Preparedness Coordinator within the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), has been chosen for the role.
With an annual production value of approximately $20 billion, direct employment of 35,000 individuals, and management of an estimated 42% of the Australian landmass, the grass-fed cattle industry plays a crucial role in rural, regional, and remote Australia.
Cattle Australia Chair, David Foote, expressed confidence in Dr. Parker’s extensive knowledge and experience, which will be valuable to CA members. Mr. Foote also extended gratitude to fellow director Adam Coffey, who served as interim CEO during the recruitment process for the full-time appointment.
Parker’s professional journey includes starting his career in private veterinary practice in the southeast of South Australia and later owning and operating a livestock grazing and farming property in the mid-north of the state. During this time, Dr. Parker served as the chairman of the South Australian Farmers Federation Livestock Section, actively engaging with the livestock industry. In addition to his external roles, he presently manages a small grazing enterprise near Murrumbateman in New South Wales. Dr. Parker holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from Murdoch University.
