Hengde Qin has been appointed as the new Chief Financial Officer of Syngenta Group, effective from December 1, 2023, as announced in a press release on October 20. Hengde Qin will take over the role of CFO from Chen Lichtenstein, who has been in this position since the creation of Syngenta Group. Lichtenstein has decided to step down in pursuit of other opportunities.
Chen Lichtenstein has been an integral part of Syngenta Group since 2006. He initially served as a member of ADAMA’s management, then assumed leadership for Global Operations, subsequently becoming Deputy CEO in charge of China Integration. He later served as President and CEO of ChemChina’s strategic business division (China National Agrochemical Corporation) before taking on the role of ADAMA President and CEO in 2014.
The press release acknowledged Lichtenstein’s instrumental role in the creation of Syngenta Group in 2020, where he took on the position of CFO. During his tenure, the Group achieved exceptional growth in all its businesses and geographical regions. Over the last three years, Lichtenstein has led the team across various key areas, including Finance, Integration & Synergies, Ventures, Productivity, and Strategy. Under his leadership, the Group significantly refinanced its debt and secured robust investment grade ratings from all credit rating agencies.
At 53 years of age, Hengde Qin currently serves as the Chief Human Resources Officer of Syngenta Group, having assumed this position at the beginning of 2023. Prior to that, he held the role of President of Syngenta Group China (SGC).
The press release highlighted his accomplishments at SGC, where he successfully established market-leading positions in the crop protection and seeds markets in China. Additionally, he bolstered SGC’s leadership in crop nutrition and expanded the Modern Agriculture Platform business, making it the fastest-growing segment in global agriculture.
Fanrong Li, Chairman of Syngenta Group, expressed confidence in Hengde’s leadership qualities, describing him as a strong leader with excellent financial acumen and a deep understanding of the business. Li also expressed anticipation for the achievements of the new leadership team, including Hengde Qin and the newly appointed CEO, Jeff Rowe.
