The world’s wealthiest 300 cities, 2023

Tokyo topped a new list of the world’s wealthiest cities for 2023, with the New York metropolitan area and Greater Los Angeles claiming the second and third spots. Tokyo has a GDP per capita of $2.05 trillion.

These 300 cities, including Paris, Seoul, Chicago, Shanghai, and Singapore, play a significant role in shaping the global economic narrative, particularly in technology and finance.

It’s interesting to consider what factors contribute to a city’s wealth. Is it solely the population, or does culture and innovation play a role? Typically, a city’s wealth is measured by its Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which considers the value of all goods and services provided in the area.

These cities are centers of business, trade, and complex networks where culture, technology, and innovation merge to create massive economies. With that in mind, here are the top 300 richest cities in the world based on GDP rankings.
