How to Perform Underwater Meditation?

underwater meditation

Several leaders and CEOs have adopted underwater meditation in different forms to remain cool, calm, composed, and charismatic. It helped them work under pressure without losing their focus to deliver their best.

Success is the outcome of learnable behaviors and habits. Successful people identify and adopt certain habits, behaviors, and patterns to achieve greatness. They are not born with unique habits. They are born like ordinary people but during their life journey, they cultivate a few worthwhile habits which help them achieve goals and become successful. They relentlessly follow the habits and. are unmindful of temporary setbacks because they have a long-term vision with a laser-focus approach to accomplish their goals.

Setbacks, however, have their own effects in pulling down the productivity and confidence of human beings. Only those with a heart of iron can stay immune to the consequences of a setback. Also, success at times contributes to over-confidence. No visionary would like his dreams to be interrupted by such disruptive qualities which would cause more harm than good. To keep the mind in its place and to protect it from such interfering attributes, practicing meditation is the best resort.

Meditation is a state of mind where the mind is free from scattered thoughts and ideas. It helps align all ideas and thoughts to enhance focus. It empties the mind to attain inner peace and tranquility. Some people treat meditation as prayer or worship.  Deepak Chopra remarked, “Meditation is not a way of making your mind quiet. It is a way of entering into the quiet that is already there – buried under the 50,000 thoughts the average person thinks every day.”

Great leaders and philosophers practice meditation because it helps them to calm down. No great decision and no big achievement are possible unless your mind is calm and composed. Life every day makes us face a thousand things that we don’t like. Yet we have to walk with it because not everything can change just because we want them to. Meditation gives us the power to detach and be indifferent toward things that we can ignore. This restores peace within and also with others.

Merits of meditation

The advantages of meditation are innumerable. It sharpens attention and enhances memory. It leads to greater happiness and deeper compassion. It streamlines scattered thoughts and brings them into one platform.

Meditation provides clarity to your mind and increases emotional stability and creativity. It lowers blood pressure and relieves tension and anxiety. It fights depression and improves your mood levels and immune system. Above all, it lifts your energy levels and unlocks your inner power and potential. You look at life with a positive attitude and optimism. You become hale and hearty.

When you confront challenges daily, your mind becomes a big mess. To clear the mess, it is advisable to practice meditation daily. Meditation clears the cobwebs in your mind. It connects your mind, body, and soul. It connects your inner world with the outside world quickly.  It helps you understand the realities of life. It makes you realistic and humble. It helps you empathize with others and eliminates conflicts.

Practicing meditation in its truest form doesn’t happen in a day. it is a method and habit which needs to be cultivated over time. But you can make a start with simple activities. As you progress you will know your path yourself.

Play calming music very softly. Prefer to sit outside in the open, where you can breathe in the fresh air. Make sure you are in a calm place where you aren’t distracted by noise. Sit up straight, with your backbone erect. Place your hands on your knees, and keep the palms open. Close your eyes and draw in the fresh air with all your strength such that the air touches your lungs. Exhale. Repeat three times. With your eyes closed, now listen to the music. Train yourself to not listen to anything else around this time. Initially, the slightest of sounds will distract you. But soon, you won’t even hear the chirping of birds. Rather you will discover new notes played in the same music that you may have played a million times before.

That’s what meditation does. When you meditate, you get to observe more and take note of finer things far more easily and hence you acquire indifference towards things that shouldn’t matter any longer.

Perform underwater meditation

In the great epic Mahabharata, Duryodhan performed underwater meditation to keep his mind calm and composed. He could stay underwater for a long time without breathing. Some people interpreted the act of staying hidden underwater as cowardice when he almost lost the Kurukshetra war against the Pandavas. Irrespective of the Hindu mythological interpretations, the fact is that when you remain underwater for some time, your mind becomes cool and composed. You get peace and tranquility. You get time to reflect and get reenergized to encounter your challenges with confidence and mettle. You also build inner power and are in a position to unlock your hidden potential.

Adopt the art of meditation to unleash the leader in you

Several eminent personalities meditated and reaped the benefits including Thomas Edison. We have also seen several leaders and CEOs adopting underwater meditation in different forms to remain cool, calm, composed, and charismatic. It helped them work under pressure without losing their focus to deliver their best. Most leaders take a break once in a while to just stay away from the hustles and bustles of the city and work. They take up meditation sessions and detox in ashrams that can provide them peace and privacy. This is to keep their minds free from organizational pulls and pressures. It provides a break from their routine chores and fills them with a sense of satisfaction that they come back rejuvenated to jump back to work with great positivity and bring myriad changes to society. It energizes them and declutters their minds.
