Top 10 city destinations globally for 2022

Paris ranked first in the CEOWORLD magazine’s “Top 10 City Destinations for 2022”, which includes best city destinations based on tourism performance, infrastructure, tourism policy and a number of other factors. The second place in the ranking of the top 10 city destinations is Dubai, which gained first place in the world during 2021. Since last year, Dubai is open to tourists from all places around the world with the government making a significant effort to support the tourism sector. Dubai ranked highest in terms of health and safety among the top 10 cities in the index.

Amsterdam holds third place on the list. Spanish cities also ranked prominently among the top 10 destinations globally for 2022. Barcelona moved up six places to 10th place on the list, while Madrid holds 4th place on the list. Madrid ranked highest in terms of sustainability and third in terms of tourism policy and attractiveness. Rome holds 5th place on the list.

The German cities took positive steps among the top 10 city destinations globally for 2022. Berlin “jumped” two places during the year, reaching 6th place, and Munich improved its position by nine places to enter the top 10 of the ranking. More specifically, Munich holds 9th place on the list. New York stands in 7th place on the list, while London holds 8th place on the list.

Paris also ranked first in the world at the European level, with a high score in terms of tourism performance and the highest one in terms of tourism policy and attractiveness.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Next comes Amsterdam. The city holds second place, having achieved the highest score in terms of financial and business performance. Not to forget to mention that Amsterdam holds 6th place globally. Safety protocols still apply to tourists returning to Amsterdam, as the city continues to improve its health and safety performance. Madrid follows at the 3rd place of the list while Rome holds the 4th place of the list. Berlin completes the top 5 European city destinations for 2022.

Four out of five Italian cities in the ranking improved their position during the year due to changes in health and safety measures, tourism policy and attractiveness. Vaccination rates have improved by more than 71% in Italy. Rome has not yet improved its ranking due to the strong impact of Covid-19 on economic and business indicators, but also on tourism performance.

As far as islands are concerned it is worth mentioning that such destinations gained popularity for 2022 because they were less crowded with fewer possibilities concerning the spread of coronavirus. One of these destinations was Palma de Mallorca, which improved its position in the ranking by 19 places. The island is a popular destination for sports tourism such as cycling, hiking, golf, sailing and bird watching. Generally, Europe is the region with the best performance in the ranking. It has the largest number of cities appearing in high places, in various pillars, especially in tourism policy and attractiveness, tourism infrastructure and sustainability.
