6 Things Every Business School Student Must Avoid In Their Admission Application

University Students

I remember the day I graduated from senior high school and realized that there is a big challenge ahead. Joining a university or college is a task that requires so many efforts that there may be times you’d feel lost and confused. But, it is okay, really. You need to take it step-by-step. Do not bundle yourself when you can simplify this whole task. The first thing you need to take up is the application process.

Many of us take admission applications for granted. We think that it is merely a form we must fill up and is only a formal requirement. Yes, an application is a formal requirement but it is also integral to determining whether you are a fit candidate. What you write, how you write, and why you write in the application form are critical aspects of the admission process.

While filling up the form, there are certain things you should include and certain things you SHOULD NOT. We are going to focus on the latter in this article. Here are 6 Don’ts you need to keep in mind.

  1.  Read the instructions
Obvious, right? Well, you might not believe this but a lot of us, and most likely you too, do not read the instructions thoroughly. Before anything less, you must read each and every instruction of the form regardless how boring you find it. Many applications are rejected simply because instructions were not properly followed and you might not even get a refund of the fee paid for the form.
  2. Fill it yourself
You want to pursue higher education but cannot even fill up an application form on our own is quite shameful. You should take into account the suggestions and assistance of your parents, friends or teachers but must not have them fill up the form for you. Application forms often come with essay portions and you can land up in trouble if you do not write it yourself.
  3. Double Check the Essay
Writing essays such as the reason for applying or SOPs could be a tricky thing, and you must take it seriously. The fate of your application is determined based on how you frame your answers. It is, therefore, advised that you should proofread the essays you write as part of the application process.
  4. Resist the Temptation To Apply Last
One of the most common habits of students is to delay the application process. They will wait until the very end to apply. Do not do that. You should try to fill up the form as soon as you can so that even if you stumble upon an issue it could be resolved in due course. Resist the temptation to apply on the last date of application submission.
  5. Be original
If you think that the evaluators would not know you have copied your essay from somewhere, then you underestimate them. They have gone through so many applications that they can easily weed out plagiarised essays by just looking at them. If you want to make an impression (a good one, that is), then you should be original in whatever you write. Originality pays off, always.
  6. Be wise about your accomplishments
Lengthy resumes are not liked by anyone. An evaluator cannot spare too much to read through your resume. Many college applications feature students attaching lengthy resume in which they highlight all kinds of extra-curricular accomplishments—even those which shall have no bearing on the application evaluation. For example, you might have won a race in your high school but unless you are applying for a sports scholarship in any school, you need not add it to your resume.

One last Time: There is no harm in checking your application one last time before submitting it. Revise your application as many times as you can, especially the essay questions. Before hitting the submit button online, make sure you have gone through the entirety of the application one last time. You may not believe this but yes, last-minute checks often expose glaring mistakes that might have been overlooked. Once you do that and submit the application, it is time to relax and wait.
