The Best 5 Educational Institutions in Ecuador You Should Know About

The Republic of Ecuador, or just Ecuador, is a South American country, with Quito as its capital city. It is a country with rich ethnic diversity comprising African, Amerindian, Mestizos, and European descendants. It is an emerging country that is witnessing a remarkable decrease in poverty and a significant increase in the standard of living. In recent years, the country has become very popular among North Americans and is seen as a great place to live since its cost of living is low, the weather is better, and the surrounding landscape is not just concrete jungles. Also, in order to draw more people, its education system has stepped up efforts to internationalize universities.

As of today, there are many universities in the country which are trying to compete on an international level. Some of these universities have consistently performed well and been placed among top universities in Latin America. If ever you decide to study in South America, you should consider Ecuador as an option. All the universities mentioned below are top-notch and can make up for a wise choice for your future.

  1. Universidad de San Francisco de Quito.
    Universidad de San Francisco de Quito, or USFQ, is the highest-ranked Ecuadorian university in Latin America. Having created history as the first liberal arts institution in the entire Andean region, USFQ was established in the year 1988 and is a fully self-funded private institution. It has a stellar reputation in scientific research, with many of its research publications being cited across the world. There are three levels of degree programs offered here: undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees. It is also the only university in the whole world to own campus in Galapagos Islands.
  2. Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL).
    Established in 1958, Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) is a public university with a reputation in research. It presently runs 5 faculties and 15 research centers. Its faculties are divided among various schools which include Social Sciences and Humanities, Engineering in Earth Sciences, Design and Visual Communication, and Electrical and Computer Engineering. So far as research centers are concerned, they include the Information Technology Centre, the Knowledge Park, and the Centre for Systems Research, Development and innovation.
  3. Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (PUCE).
    Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (PUCE) is an ecclesiastical university which was established in the year 1946 and is based in Quito. Its academic organization comprises several faculties and schools such as Faculty of Education Sciences, School of Psychology, School of Social Work, School of Bioanalysis, and Faculty of Education Sciences. Its school of communication is further divided into several schools which include the Multilingual School of Business, School of Language and Literature, and School of Linguistics. The university invests a lot of its resources in its cultural center which was founded to conduct exhibitions with artists from across the globe.
  4. Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas ESPE.
    Also called the Army University, Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas ESPE is a prominent university that emerged out of the merger of 3 service academies in the year 2013. It was initially founded to train military engineers in 1922 but was later rechristened following the first admission of civilians in 1977. Its academic structure has been developed keeping in mind the needs of nanoscience, defense technology, and strategic studies. Due to its involvement in army science, it is regularly roped in for many defense-related projects. Its popularity is gaining traction considering it offers unconventional courses and a different career path altogether.
  5. Universidad de Cuenca.
    Universidad de Cuenca is an old university, having been founded in the year 1867, and is situated in Cuenca. There is a wide range of academic programs offered here which include architecture and urbanism, agricultural sciences, medical sciences, hospitality sciences, philosophy, jurisprudence, engineering, and odontology. The university is spread across the city, and its campuses include Paradise Campus, Historic Centre Campus, Eco Campus, Central Campus, and Yanuncay Campus. To ensure that its students can learn from the best of the world, it has entered into agreements with many universities from all over the world such as Munich University of Applied Sciences and Florence University of the Arts.
