Portugal has been named the top country for American retirees to move to in retirement in 2020, according to International Living’s Global Retirement Index. No 2 is Panama and No 3 is Costa Rica. Mexico and Colombia were fourth and fifth.
The rest of the top 10 were Ecuador, Malaysia, Spain, France, Vietnam. The ranking takes several factors into consideration, including housing; benefits and discounts for seniors; visas and residence; the cost of living; assimilation and entertainment; quality and accessibility of healthcare; development; climate; government stability; and opportunity for semi-retirement.
But don’t think this list is limited to retirees: It’s also for people who want to move to a place where the cost of living is much cheaper than in the United States – so cheap, in fact, that you might not have to work.
Here is the world’s best retirement destination for Americans in 2020, according to ex-pats who have already made the move.
