Report: 20 Most Dangerous U.S. Cities For 2018;And Las Vegas Isn’t On The List
Michigan has five and Florida four in a list of the top 20 most dangerous cities in the United States, according to a report published by the National Council for Home Safety and Security. East St. Louis was named the most dangerous city in America.
And surprise, surprise, Las Vegas isn’t on the list.
Ranked at No. 3, Opa Locka, Florida comes in just after Darby Borough, Pennsylvania, at 2, and before Florida City, Florida, which sits at 4. Other Florid cities appearing on this top 20 list: Cocoa (11) and Belle Glade (17).
Flint, Michigan appears 5th on the list, with 2,109 violent crimes per 100,000 citizens. Four other Michigan cities appear on the 20 list: Detroit (6), Saginaw City (7), Highland Park (18) and Muskegon Heights (19)
The report says: “Where there is a high poverty rate, and little opportunity to earn a decent wage, we find high homicide rates and a prevalence of other types of violent crime.”
Based on average rate of violent crime per 100,000 population, the top 20 most dangerous cities in America are:

Violent crimes per 100,000 citizens: 4,888
2. Darby Borough, Pennsylvania
Violent crimes per 100,000 citizens: 3,617
3. Opa Locka, Florida
Violent crimes per 100,000 citizens: 2,807
4. Florida City, Florida
Violent crimes per 100,000 citizens: 2,551
5. Flint, Michigan
Violent crimes per 100,000 citizens: 2,109
6. Detroit, Michigan
Violent crimes per 100,000 citizens: 2,059
7. Saginaw City, Michigan
Violent crimes per 100,000 citizens: 2,021
8. College Park, Georgia
Violent crimes per 100,000 citizens: 1,967
9. Prichard, Alabama
Violent crimes per 100,000 citizens: 1,936
10. West Memphis, Arkansas
