How did growing up in Salt Lake City influence your current passions and career?
Growing up in Salt Lake City was pivotal. The city’s vibrant outdoor culture fueled my love for activities like hiking, boating, and fishing. This connection to dynamic environments translated into my automotive businesses, Amari Motors and Amari Customs and Designs, where we bring the same energy and passion for adventure into the cars we design and sell.
What drove you to transition from your interests in sports like basketball and soccer to focusing on automotive and aviation industries?
Sports taught me about teamwork, precision, and pushing limits, qualities that are just as vital in the automotive and aviation sectors. While I still enjoy sports, my career shift was driven by a fascination with mechanics and the artistry behind car restoration and aviation. It’s about taking something from a concept to functional art.
Can you describe the early days of setting up Amari Motors and how you evolved to establish Amari Customs and Designs?
Amari Motors began in a modest garage, focusing on buying and selling used cars. As my interest and expertise in vehicle restoration grew, so did our clientele’s desire for unique, custom solutions. This led to the birth of Amari Customs and Designs, where we now tailor cars to specific artistic and performance specs, transforming ordinary vehicles into extraordinary pieces of art.
What has been your most challenging project at Amari Customs and Designs, and what made it particularly difficult?
The most challenging project was restoring a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTE. The car arrived in a near-irreparable state. Sourcing authentic parts and respecting the original craftsmanship while integrating modern enhancements without compromising its integrity was both a challenge and a learning experience. It taught us a lot about balance and respect for history in restoration.
How do you incorporate your love for aviation into your automotive business?
Aviation principles of aerodynamics, efficiency, and design influence how we think about automotive aesthetics and functionality at Amari Motors. We often take inspiration from the sleek, efficient lines of aircraft and the advanced materials used in aerospace to innovate our car designs and customizations.
What are some of the charities you support, and why do these causes matter to you?
I support charities that focus on children’s welfare and environmental conservation. Growing up in Utah, I was fortunate to have a supportive community and pristine natural surroundings. I believe every child deserves that nurturing environment and that we must protect our natural world for future generations to enjoy as I did.
What has been the most rewarding moment in your career so far?
The most rewarding moment was when Amari Motors completed its first international sale. It was a milestone that signified our growth from a local garage to a business with global reach. Knowing that there are people around the world who appreciate our work enough to invest in it was incredibly gratifying.
As a self-taught expert in car restoration and design, what advice would you give to someone aspiring to enter this field?
Start small, learn constantly, and don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty. The best lessons come from the challenges you face while dismantling and rebuilding. Also, networking with others in the industry can provide invaluable insights and opportunities to learn.
Considering your hobbies, what is your dream car restoration project, and why?
My dream project would be to restore a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing. It’s a beautiful symbol of automotive history with its distinctive doors and sleek design. Restoring one would not only be a tribute to its engineering but also a personal challenge to meet the high standards such a car demands.
Looking to the future, where do you see Amari Motors and Amari Customs and Designs in the next ten years?
I envision Amari Motors expanding further into the international market, becoming a recognized name in the luxury and custom car industry. For Amari Customs and Designs, I see us pioneering new techniques in car restoration and customization, potentially incorporating more sustainable practices and materials as we align with the evolving automotive landscape. We aim to be at the forefront of innovation while maintaining the heritage and passion that define us.
