Polish Billionaire Zygmunt Solorz Loses Control of his Business Faces Amid Family Dispute

A court in Liechtenstein has appointed a curator to oversee the TiVi and Solkomtel foundations, the entities through which billionaire Zygmunt Solorz controls his Polish businesses. This decision comes amidst a heated succession dispute with his children.

The conflict began in late September when Solorz’s children issued a letter to the management of his companies, cautioning against decisions that could undermine their control over the businesses. In response, Solorz indicated that he had restricted his children’s roles in the management of the companies, citing the need to maintain stability.

At the heart of the dispute lies control of the TiVi and Solkomtel foundations, which hold Solorz’s majority stake in Cyfrowy Polsat and other key ventures. In 2022, Solorz initially handed over control of the foundations to his children but later reversed this decision, attributing the change to improvements in his health. The situation escalated further in the summer of 2023 when his children signed an agreement, only for Solorz to retract it the next day.

The legal battle has now extended to Liechtenstein, where the court not only appointed a curator to manage the foundations but also suspended Solorz’s authority to appoint their boards. Additionally, a ruling from a court in Limassol, Cyprus, prohibits him from taking actions that could impact the ownership or management structures of Polsat Group companies.

These legal setbacks leave Solorz at a crossroads: he must either pursue a compromise with his children or brace for a protracted legal conflict. The situation underscores the complexities of family dynamics in high-stakes business empires.
