New York Tops List as World’s Wealthiest City, Henley & Partners Research Highlights
Recent research from Henley & Partners has highlighted New York City as the wealthiest city in the world by several key metrics, emphasizing its status as the financial hub of the United States. The study considered a variety of factors to compile a global ranking of the richest cities. According to the report, New York is home to some of the most exclusive residential streets, such as Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. Additionally, the city hosts the world’s two largest stock exchanges by market capitalization: the NYSE and Nasdaq. Perhaps most notably, the total wealth held by New York’s residents surpasses $3 trillion—an amount greater than the total wealth in many major G20 nations.
The study indicated that New York has seen a 48% increase in millionaires over the past decade, now housing nearly 350,000 millionaires. The city is also home to at least 744 centi-millionaires, individuals with over $100 million in investable assets, as well as around 60 billionaires.
Other U.S. cities featured in the top 10 include the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles. The research provided a global ranking of the richest cities, listing them as follows:
- New York
- The Bay Area
- Tokyo
- Singapore
- London
- Los Angeles
- Paris
- Sydney
- Hong Kong
- Beijing
