Lürssen Superyacht Alibaba Embarks on Sea Trials in Germany
The 136.8-meter superyacht Alibaba was recently spotted undergoing sea trials near Brunsbüttel, Germany. Launched in December 2023, the vessel’s naval architecture was developed in-house by the renowned German shipyard Lürssen. Despite the yacht’s public debut, most details about Alibaba have remained shrouded in secrecy since construction began in 2019.
Visually, Alibaba embodies Lürssen’s signature design elements, with an elongated bow, angular lines, and bold exterior features that ensure her striking presence in any harbor. The yacht’s impressive design includes four expansive decks that blend elegance with a subtle, military-inspired aesthetic. Her large exterior spaces are especially notable, with the aft deck extending nearly half the length of her profile.
Alibaba gained considerable attention last year due to an incident during its construction. A technical malfunction in the dock gate caused the dock to lose water, resulting in her bow being pushed into the dock curtain. This led to the yacht being launched earlier than planned by Lürssen in December 2023.
In terms of technical specifications, Alibaba is powered by twin MAN engines and features a steel hull paired with an aluminum superstructure. According to industry sources from Superyacht iQ, Lürssen is also currently building other notable vessels, including the 134.2-meter yacht Deep Blue, set for delivery in 2025, along with the 114.2-meter Cosmos and the 102.4-meter JassJ.
