Hong Kong Wealth Legacy Summit Sees 50% Surge in Attendance, Including Managing Director of PayPal
The Hong Kong Academy for Wealth Legacy (HKAWL) recently hosted its second summit, which saw a significant increase in attendance, with a 50 percent rise in participants compared to the inaugural event earlier this year. The three-day summit, held from Thursday to Saturday, attracted representatives from family offices across mainland China, the Philippines, the UK, Qatar, and other markets.
During the event, Hong Kong’s financial secretary, Paul Chan, highlighted the city’s strategic advantages. He emphasized that Hong Kong’s prime location and unique value proposition make it an ideal gateway for family offices aiming to seize business opportunities in the region.
According to a report from the South China Morning Post, HKAWL’s second summit drew around 150 family business and office representatives, a notable increase from the 100 attendees at the first summit in May 2023. Among the prominent figures present was Jack Selby, managing director of PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel’s family office.
Founded in 2023, the Hong Kong Academy for Wealth Legacy was established with the mission of serving family offices through networking, knowledge-sharing, and talent development. The government-backed organization is chaired by Adrian Cheng, the heir-apparent to one of Hong Kong’s wealthiest families.
