Ford’s BlueCruise Technology Gains European Approval Across 15 Countries
Ford has announced a significant milestone: the European Commission has given the green light for its BlueCruise hands-free driving technology to be utilized across 15 countries in Europe. This marks a notable expansion for the technology, which will now cover over 82,744 miles of designated highways.
The recent approval follows successful launches in Great Britain, Germany, and Spain earlier in 2023. BlueCruise is now also available for use on highways in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, and Sweden. This extension brings the total number of countries where BlueCruise is available to 17, including previous approvals in the US and Canada.
With this expansion, Ford customers can embark on extensive road trips across Europe, such as traveling hands-free from Sweden to Italy, a journey spanning nearly 1,864 miles. This technology promises to enhance driver convenience, safety, and accessibility on long drives.
BlueCruise operates as a Level 2 “hands-off, eyes-on” advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). It manages steering, acceleration, braking, and lane positioning while continuously monitoring road conditions and traffic. A driver-facing camera ensures that drivers remain attentive and keep their eyes on the road, thereby combining automation with safety oversight.
The technology’s European rollout means that drivers can experience hands-free driving on an even broader network of highways, potentially transforming road travel by offering a more relaxed and controlled driving experience.
