Deezer Appoints Alexis Lanternier as New CEO Effective September 2
Deezer has announced Alexis Lanternier as its new CEO, effective 2nd September 2024. Lanternier will take over from interim CEO Stu Bergen, who’ll continue to serve on Deezer’s Board of Directors. Bergen had stepped into the interim role in March following the departure of former CEO Jeronimo Folgueira.
Based at Deezer’s headquarters in Paris, Lanternier will collaborate closely with the Board of Directors and the leadership team. Deezer stated that this appointment aims to position the company for sustained profitable growth and innovation within the evolving music-streaming industry.
Deezer describes Lanternier as a seasoned entrepreneur and executive Who has built digital consumer goods platforms across Europe, Asia, and North America over the past 14 years. He recently co-founded Branded, a consumer goods company, and previously served as EVP of Walmart Canada eCommerce, where he developed a multi-billion dollar online grocery business.
From 2014 to 2019, Lanternier held increasing responsibilities at Lazada, an Alibaba Group-owned e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia. As CEO of Lazada Singapore, he led the company to market leadership through a comprehensive strategy. During his tenure, Lazada acquired the online grocery startup Redmart and launched the LiveUp loyalty subscription, which included partnerships with Netflix and Uber.
Lanternier began his career as a Project Leader at Boston Consulting Group in France and the US, focusing on large-scale transformation initiatives. He also held category management roles at Amazon in Media and Apparel.
Iris Knobloch, Chair of Deezer’s Board of Directors, welcomed Lanternier, citing his impressive international and French leadership experience and his ability to drive transformative growth. Knobloch expressed confidence in Lanternier’s vision and leadership to elevate Deezer’s success. She also thanked Stu Bergen for his effective interim leadership, which facilitated a period of consolidation and development for the company.
