Singapore Tops Henley & Partners’ 2024 Passport Rankings
In early 2024, Singapore emerged as the leader in Henley & Partners’ latest passport rankings, surpassing a six-country tie to claim the top position. The “Henley Passport Index” reports that Singapore now holds the most powerful passport globally, offering visa-free access to 195 out of 227 destinations. The Henley Passport Index relies on exclusive and official data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Following Singapore, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Spain share the second spot, each providing visa-free access to 192 destinations. Hong Kong, a rival hub, is ranked 18th, with 170 visa-free destinations available to its passport holders. One of the most notable shifts in the rankings is the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which climbed from 55th place in 2014 to 9th in 2024. The UAE passport now allows visa-free travel to 185 destinations.
Henley & Partners’ CEO, Dr. Juerg Steffen, commented on the UAE’s significant rise, stating that it exemplifies the success achievable through a strategic and focused effort to enhance passport power. He emphasized that this ascent is not coincidental but results from deliberate efforts by the Emirati government to establish strong diplomatic relationships and secure favorable visa waiver agreements.
