CEO of Solar Fabrik Arrested Amid Legal Investigation

Christian Laibacher, the CEO of Solar Fabrik, has been detained by German authorities due to an ongoing investigation led by the Würzburg public prosecutor’s office. While specific details of the case remain undisclosed, it has been confirmed that the inquiry pertains to the activities of ESC Verwaltungs GmbH & Co. KG during the years 2014 to 2016, when Laibacher was at the helm of the company.

Solar Fabrik has clarified that the current legal matters involving Laibacher are unrelated to their operations. The company communicated this to its staff earlier this week.

The background of Solar Fabrik is intertwined with ESC Verwaltungs GmbH & Co. KG. Laibacher established ESC Verwaltungs GmbH in 2010, managed it, and applied for its liquidation in 2022. In 2016, following Solar Fabrik’s bankruptcy, Laibacher purchased part of its production facilities and founded Solar Fabrik CL GmbH, subsequently relocating the production from Freiburg to Aschaffenburg.

Recently, in May, Solar Fabrik announced a new venture to construct a factory for tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) solar modules in Hösbach, aiming for an annual production capacity of 300 MW. This development comes at a time when several other photovoltaic manufacturers, including Meyer Burger, Solarwatt, and Heckert Solar, are ceasing production in Germany.
