Female Leadership for Lidl Belgium and Luxembourg with Marjolein Frederickx in the Role of CEO
Lidl Belgium and Luxembourg has appointed Marjolein Frederickx as its new chief executive officer, taking over from Matúš Gála on 1 September 2024.
Frederickx, a long-standing member of the company, brings over 15 years of experience, including eight years as chief financial officer for Lidl Belgium & Luxembourg. She began her career with the company in 2009, holding various positions over the years and completing an executive MBA at Vlerick Business School.
Frederickx expressed her commitment to continuing the company’s growth strategy, emphasizing the creation of added value for customers, employees, and key stakeholders. She acknowledged the sustainable growth achieved under Gála’s leadership in the past two years and aims to build on this foundation.
Matúš Gála, who became CEO of Lidl Belgium and Luxembourg in May 2022, previously served as CEO of Lidl Slovakia. His tenure at Lidl began in 2008 as a regional manager in Slovakia after completing his studies at the Faculty of Economics and Management at the University of Slovakia. Gála succeeded Boudewijn van den Brand, who had been the CEO since 2014.
In a related development, Lidl and Kaufland parent company Schwarz Group, reported an 8.5% revenue increase to around $182.2 billion for the financial year 2023. The company attributed this success to inflation-driven price increases, improved processes, and further digitalization.
