Sayona Mining Appoints Lucas Dow as New CEO
North American lithium producer Sayona Mining has appointed Lucas Dow as the new Managing Director and CEO, succeeding interim CEO James Brown. Dow, a seasoned mining executive with extensive experience in leading resource organizations, initially joined Sayona’s board as a non-executive director on February 14.
Dow acknowledged the significant contributions of James Brown, who led the company for the past ten months. Under Brown’s leadership, the NAL achieved industry-leading results in plant utilization and recovery, demonstrating his and the Quebec operational team’s dedication and expertise.
Lucas Dow expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, highlighting the potential of Sayona’s assets. He emphasized the company’s promising projects, such as North American Lithium (NAL) and Moblan, which are expected to drive future success.
In addition to Dow’s appointment, Sayona promoted Sylvain Collard to President and COO of Canada. Collard will oversee the company’s projects in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue hub, including NAL operations, and the Eeyou Istchee James Bay hub, focusing on the exploration and development of the Moblan lithium project.
Collard brings specialized knowledge in mine project management and continuous process improvement. His extensive experience spans operations management for both open-pit and underground mines. Throughout his career, Collard has led several major projects, including a significant capital project at the Essakane mine in Burkina Faso for Iamgold, where he managed 3,500 workers. He has also managed copper and gold mines and projects across Quebec, Ontario, and the US.
Sayona Mining is poised for continued growth and success under the new leadership team, with a strong focus on maximizing the potential of its North American lithium assets.
