Sam Altman from OpenAI Welcomes New Leadership Team Members
OpenAI, renowned for its AI breakthroughs like ChatGPT, has announced the addition of two significant executives to its team. In a blog post, OpenAI highlighted that these appointments are aimed at enhancing the company’s ability to scale and meet the demands of its expanding customer base and the complexities of a global market.
Sarah Friar, previously the CEO of neighborhood social network NextDoor, is joining as OpenAI’s first Chief Financial Officer. Friar, who has also held CFO roles at fintech firm Block (formerly Square) and has experience with Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, and Salesforce, played a crucial role in making both NextDoor and Square public. Despite her history with IPOs, OpenAI has downplayed speculation about a similar move.
Kevin Weil, formerly President of Product and Business at Planet Labs, has been appointed as OpenAI’s Chief Product Officer. Weil’s impressive resume includes roles as VP of Product on Instagram, VP of Product on Novi on Facebook, and SVP of Product on Twitter.
CEO Sam Altman commented, “Sarah and Kevin bring a depth of experience that will enable OpenAI to scale our operations, set a strategy for the next phase of growth, and ensure that our teams have the resources they need to continue to thrive.”
