Lars-Christian Svensen is stepping down as the Chief Executive of John Fredriksen-backed dry bulk company Golden Ocean Group (NASDAQ: GOGL). Svensen, who initially stepped up as interim head in June last year and took on the permanent CEO role in January, has decided to pursue new opportunities, as announced by Golden Ocean in a filing on Wednesday.
Svensen will remain available until September. Peder Simonsen, the chief of finance, will take over as interim CEO of the company, which reported a profit of $65.4 million in the first quarter and has a fleet of 94 vessels, including three new buildings.
Svensen expressed gratitude to the board and his colleagues for the years of collaboration, stating that he is proud of his contributions to the company’s success and development during his tenure. He wished the company continued prosperity in the future.
Before becoming CEO, Svensen served as Golden Ocean’s chief commercial officer starting in December 2020. His previous roles included senior vice president in Norway and president of US trading activities in Seattle for Western Bulk. Prior to that, he worked as a downstream analyst for Petredec and a tanker broker for Cmarine Services in Singapore.
