Jimmy Rane Continues to Be the Richest Individual in Alabama
Jimmy Rane, the founder and CEO of Great Southern Wood Preserving, is a prominent figure in the lumber industry, known for producing decks, fences, and other treated lumber products. Rane is famously recognized as “the Yella Fella,” a cowboy persona he embodied in the company’s television commercials.
Starting with a modest backyard treating plant that generated $22,000 in sales in 1971, Rane and his brother transformed the business into a powerhouse with nearly $2 billion in annual sales. Initially running his company as a side business while practicing law, Rane eventually dedicated himself full-time to growing Great Southern Wood Preserving into the industry giant it is today.
In 2000, Rane established the Jimmy Rane Foundation, which has awarded over 620 partial college scholarships to date, reflecting his commitment to education and community support.
At 77 years old, Rane has built his wealth through the lumber industry. He resides in Abbeville, Alabama, holds American citizenship, and is married with three children. He earned a Bachelor of Arts/Science from Auburn University.
