Ranked: The World’s Best Countries In Which To Start A Career, 2024

People

According to CEOWORLD magazine, the United Kingdom has been named the number one country in the world for starting a career. Germany earned the second spot, followed by Canada in third place and the United States in fourth. Japan came in fifth, followed by France in sixth place. The Netherlands ranked seventh, with South Korea in eighth place.

The rankings were based on a study of nearly 196,000 graduates under the age of 35 and evaluated countries based on 19 criteria, including job market, economic stability, entrepreneurial environment, income equality, innovation, progressiveness, and desirability to live in. Which countries are the best for starting a career? How does the United States compare to the rest of the world?

The decrease in demand is likely to have a significant impact on income generation, which in turn will cause the job market to shift. However, it’s impossible to predict the future of the job market with certainty. Nevertheless, the trend suggests that work culture will shift towards the remote working model. Although the shortage of disposable income will affect the expansion of the job market in the short term, the overall country-specific perception is unlikely to change in the short term. Sweden and the United Arab Emirates occupy the ninth and tenth positions, respectively, among the top 10 Best Countries in Which to Start a Career.

The list of the best countries to start a career is expected to experience significant changes in the coming years, influenced by economic and aspirational factors. India and Southeast Asia are predicted to witness a boom, propelled by local business dynamics and strategic shifts in terms of demand and demographics. Therefore, if you are a young person, it is advisable to be open-minded and innovative while planning your career.

Detailed findings & methodology: To determine the rankings, researchers at CEOWORLD magazine compiled, analyzed, and compared 127 countries across two key categories: Livability and Professional Opportunities. They evaluated these dimensions by looking at 19 indicators that fell into one of these categories. Each indicator was graded on a 100-point scale. The indicators were based on relevant research and reports that followed strict requirements to gather and analyze their data to build the rankings. Therefore, this research takes into account countries that have been analyzed in relevant literature.

According to recent research, by the year 2024, there will be a shortage of approximately 56 million educated workers in the global job market. The study aims to identify the most desirable country in the world for graduates, referring to individuals who have completed higher education and earned degrees and are under 35 years old. CEOWORLD magazine has compiled a list of the top countries to launch a career, highlighting nations with strong economies that can provide employment opportunities suitable for workers with the appropriate skillset.

In January and March of 2024, CEOWORLD magazine conducted a global survey consisting of detailed questionnaires. The survey included 196,000 participants, and each individual indicator was given equal weight within each of the three categories. Some indicators were made up of 2-3 sub-indicators that were also weighted equally.

To determine the best countries in which to start a career, CEOWORLD magazine compiled data from sources like the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), World Economic Forum, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), U.S. News & World Report, the United Nation’s Economic and Social Council (UNESOC), the World Bank, as well as their own research. A panel of experts then reviewed the data points and used the information to compare countries. The final choice of countries was based on a consensus from these sources, and their position on the list was judged editorially. All data is for the most recent period available.

It is important to note that the margin of sampling error for the full sample of 186,000 respondents is plus or minus 1.2 percentage points. Additionally, as with all survey research, there are potential sources of error, such as coverage, nonresponse, and measurement error, that could impact the results.
