Intesa Sanpaolo Announces New Finance Chief and Management Reshuffle

Intesa Sanpaolo ISP.MI unveiled Luca Bocca as its new finance chief in a strategic management overhaul aimed at fortifying Italy’s largest bank for future endeavors, CEO Carlo Messina disclosed.

Bocca, previously the bank’s deputy chief financial officer, steps into the shoes of Stefano Del Punta, whose tenure as Intesa’s CFO since 2013 garnered investor acclaim and earned him a close rapport with Messina.

Despite stepping down from the CFO role, Del Punta will continue to play a pivotal role as a senior advisor to CEO Carlo Messina, ensuring continuity and strategic guidance, the bank affirmed.

Moreover, Elisabetta Stegher assumes responsibility as the manager overseeing the company’s financial reporting, succeeding Fabrizio Dabbene. Additionally, Intesa’s management shake-up embraces diversity with the appointment of five other women to senior roles.

Intesa emphasized that these fresh faces, with extensive leadership experience within the group, bring an average age of 49 to their new roles, underlining a blend of seasoned expertise and youthful vigor.

Described as a generational transition, these changes coincide with the midway point of the bank’s current business plan (2022-2025), affording newly promoted executives the opportunity to acclimate and grow within their roles before the institution charts its next strategic trajectory.

With CEO Carlo Messina’s mandate slated for renewal post-2024, the bank underscores its commitment to continuity and evolution under his leadership, with Messina expressing willingness to continue steering the bank’s course if supported by shareholders.
