Knut Arild Hareide Takes The Helm At Norwegian Shipowners’ Association
In a significant move for Norway’s maritime sector, the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association has appointed Knut Arild Hareide, the former minister of transport, as its new chief executive. Hareide is set to succeed Harald Solberg, who departs after six commendable years to lead the Federation of Norwegian Industries. As Hareide assumes leadership of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association in August, he brings with him a strategic vision and a dedication to advancing the interests of Norway’s maritime sector.
With an impressive track record in both government and maritime administration, Hareide brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Having served as the director general of the Norwegian Maritime Authority since January 2022, and prior to that, holding positions such as member of parliament from Hordaland and leader of the Christian Democratic Party from 2011 to 2019, Hareide is poised to navigate the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association through dynamic challenges and opportunities.
Harald Fotland, the recently appointed president of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association and CEO at Odfjell, expressed confidence in Hareide’s appointment, citing his unique political expertise and extensive experience in both legislative and maritime realms. Fotland emphasized the importance of maintaining active and effective maritime policies, a task for which Hareide’s background makes him eminently suited.
In response to his appointment, Hareide expressed enthusiasm for the role, highlighting the vital role of shipping and the maritime industry in Norway’s economy. He underscored the industry’s global significance as a job creator and value generator, emphasizing his commitment to furthering its goals, including ambitious targets for decarbonization and digital transformation.
