Farewell to a Visionary Leader as Brendan P. Keegan Retires from Merchants Fleet

Merchants Fleet announces the forthcoming retirement of Brendan P. Keegan, its esteemed Chairman, CEO, and President, effective May 17, 2024. Keegan’s decision to retire signifies a transition towards pursuing his diverse passions while retaining his position as the company’s third-largest shareholder and staunchest supporter.

In the wake of Keegan’s departure, Brad Burgess, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing, and Kirk Hoffman, Chief Financial Officer, stepped into the roles of interim co-CEOs, leveraging a combined experience of over four decades in fleet management. Their appointment marks a seamless continuation of Merchants Fleet’s commitment to excellence and innovation.

Keegan, a stalwart figure in the industry, leaves behind a legacy of fearless leadership and unwavering dedication after more than 15 years of service. Keegan’s journey with Merchants Fleet commenced in 2009, evolving from the company’s largest client to a pivotal role on the board of directors. His tenure saw strategic initiatives and transformative leadership, culminating in his appointment as CEO in 2018, a testament to his enduring dedication.

Under Keegan’s stewardship, Merchants Fleet embraced innovation, leading to significant milestones such as a growth equity raise in 2020 and a strategic sale to Bain Capital and Abu Dhabi Investment Authority in 2022. These achievements underscore Keegan’s transformative leadership and set the stage for the company’s continued growth and evolution.

Reflecting on his tenure, Keegan expresses pride in the culture of innovation fostered at Merchants Fleet, which has been instrumental in driving its unprecedented growth. As he looks towards retirement, Keegan remains confident in the company’s future, fortified by a robust foundation and a shared vision for continued success.

Olof Bergqvist, a respected Board Member representing Bain Capital, acknowledges Keegan’s profound impact, describing him as a visionary leader who propelled Merchants Fleet to the forefront of the industry. Keegan’s indomitable spirit, passion, and pursuit of excellence have shaped the company’s trajectory, earning admiration and gratitude from colleagues and stakeholders alike.
