Venkatesh Tarakkad is the New CFO of upGrad
Edtech unicorn upGrad has appointed Venkatesh Tarakkad, former DealShare executive, as its Chief Financial Officer, according to a statement released by the company. In his new capacity, Tarakkad will spearhead upGrad’s domestic and global financial strategies, overseeing critical areas such as investor relations, business finance, corporate finance, financial planning and analysis, and risk management.
Previously, Rohit Agarwal held the position of head of corporate finance at upGrad. Following Tarakkad’s appointment, Agarwal will now report to Tarakkad, who will have an expanded mandate covering crucial elements of the business, including automation and compliance.
This marks the first time since its inception in 2015 that upGrad has appointed a Chief Financial Officer. Mayank Kumar, upGrad’s co-founder, emphasized the necessity of evolving leadership as the organization expands its operations.
Tarakkad brings over 30 years of extensive experience in building and scaling financial operations, managing acquisitions, leading funding rounds, and taking companies public. His leadership roles span various renowned brands, including Ecom Express, TCNS Clothing, Siam Makro Thailand, Metro Cash & Carry, and Coca-Cola India.
Mayank Kumar expressed confidence in Tarakkad’s appointment, citing it as a strategic move forward in upGrad’s growth journey, both domestically and globally. Tarakkad’s operational acumen is expected to bolster upGrad’s credit profile, ensure compliance, and enhance corporate and financial governance within the organization.
